Public consultation proposes new rules for making areas available

The proposal changes the public offering procedure for returned areas and the qualification deadlines. The sector has 30 days to comment.

The mining regulator has opened a public consultation on a proposal that changes how areas returned to the government are offered. The text covers qualification deadlines and the tie-breaking criteria between applicants for the same area.

Areas in availability are those that returned to the State after a title was extinguished, through forfeiture, annulment or waiver, and that can be offered to new applicants. Changes to the procedure directly affect anyone tracking the queue of released areas.

The consultation is open for 30 days, and comments are received through the agency’s official channel. Tracking the areas that become available is one of the routines TERRADAR automates, linking each released area to the map and to the history of the tenement it came from.
